Start a Garden
If you are thinking of starting a community garden, two of the most important considerations are the people and the location.
- Form a group of at least 3-5 committed people who will take an active role in the creation and maintenance of the garden.
- When choosing a location, consider the size, sun exposure, and water accessibility of the site. Having access to private land is ideal, but if you wish to use a city lot, contact the Community and Development department at City Hall. They have a program in place that can help you acquire the necessary land. Here is a map of all the vacant lots in the City of Jackson.
